WMLO Board Responsibilities
Please review board positions and key responsibilities for each:
PRESIDENT
- Lead the board in defining WMLO's board charter, vision, and mission
- Serve as the spokesperson and official contact of WMLO internally
- Initiate, adapt, and develop board processes to foster board communication, efficiency, and effectiveness
- Communicate and collaborate with Wagner administration and faculty
- Collect and collate feedback from WMLO Board members
- Help coordinate the semester master schedule of internal and external WMLO events
- Consider co-sponsorships with WMLO partners
- Organize periodic meetings with WSA Vice President of Operations to confirm compliance with guidelines
- Coordinate WMLO’s volunteer requirement
- Plan and execute two events per year
- Attend WSA and WLA (WSA's Wagner Leadership Academy) meetings
- Lead the transition preparation and meeting for next year’s board
ACADEMIC AND CAREER CHAIR
- Hold academic advising sessions prior to registration
- Liaise between Management students and faculty
- Identify opportunities for Management students and faculty to have meaningful interactions
- Work with Office of Career Services (OCS) to enhance the professional advancement of WMLO members
- Coordinate events and liaise with RCLA
- Coordinate per-registration and peer-to-peer networking events
- Provide all Wagner faculty with a semester WMLO update
- Plan and execute two events per year
- Develop opportunities for interactions with Wagner alumni
- Attend WSA and WLA (Wagner Leadership Academy) meetings
- Train the incoming Academic and Career Chair at the end of term on the board
ADMINISTRATIVE CHAIR
- Work with the President to ensure that board members follow through on deliverables
- Schedule all board meetings, ensuring two open board meetings per semester
- Prepare meeting agendas with the President
- Promptly (within 24 hours) prepare and distribute board meeting minutes
- Assist the President with the follow-up of meetings and maintenance of organization archives
- Document activities to ensure institutional knowledge and successful transitions between boards
- Provide editing and revising support on mass communications
- Manage contact information of WMLO event attendees as well as other stakeholders
- Provide support to WMLO communications chair in order to develop social media platforms
- Plan and execute two events per year
- Attend WSA and WLA (Wagner Leadership Academy) meetings
- Train the incoming Administrative Chair at the end of term on the board
COMMUNICATIONS CHAIR
- Write and email weekly digest with embedded image of WMLO logo and WMLO signature
- Provide editing and revising support on mass communications
- Maintain records of contacts of partner organizations
- Send all mass and one-off event communication announcements
- Respond to emails sent to WMLO and personal emails and communicate any significant emails to the board
- Identify relevant mailing lists to reach the NYU and NYC community
- Update WMLO Facebook profile with events and announcements
- Provide or delegate regular WMLO web site updates.
- Identify tips, news articles, blogs, & other relevant information for managers and NYU management students
- Plan and execute two events per year
- Attend WSA and WLA (Wagner Leadership Academy) meetings as needed
- Train the incoming Communications Chair at the end of term on the board
EVENTS AND FINANCE CHAIR
- Serve as the main WMLO contact for Wagner events staff
- Coordinate staffing for events
- Place orders with vendors (for food, refreshments, etc.)
- Reserve rooms or space for events and board meetings
- Prepare annual operating budget and submit annual WSA Executive and Summary Budget Proposal
- Regularly update and communicate budget to the board
- Maintain all financial documents, past transactions, and receipts
- Process all reimbursement requests from members and vendors
- Develop and submit all contingency funding requests to WSA
- Communicate with President, Wagner, WSA, or NYU to make sure payments are processed properly
- Attend quarterly budget reviews with the WSA Treasurer and any treasurer-specific trainings
- Plan and execute two events per year
- Attend WSA and WLA (Wagner Leadership Academy) meetings as needed
- Train the incoming Events and Finance Chair at the end of term on the board
EXTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS CHAIR
- Lead recruitment of Advisory Board
- Hold meetings with Advisory Board members twice per semester
- Coordinate one social gathering with Advisory Board and Executive Board per semester
- Prepare Advisory Board meeting agendas
- Delegate tasks and deadlines to Advisory Board
- Collect and collate feedback from the Advisory Board
- Liaison between the Board and Advisory Board
- Identify university and city wide partnerships
- Developing WMLO’s network beyond NYU
- With Advisory Board, identify events, news articles, blogs, and other relevant information for managers
- With Advisory Board, plan and execute two events per year
- Attend WSA and WLA (Wagner Leadership Academy) meetings as needed
- Train the incoming External Communications Chair at the end of term on the board
